Gambling is the risking of something of value, such as money or property, on an event whose outcome is determined at least in part by chance and the hope of winning a prize. The term gambling is generally used to refer to games of chance, but it can also include other activities such as buying lottery or scratch-off tickets or betting on horse races. People gamble for a variety of reasons, including the excitement and adrenaline rush of winning, socializing with friends, or as a way to relieve boredom or stress. For some, however, gambling can become a serious problem that negatively impacts their mental health.
