MINNEAPOLIS – Texas All-America junior Townley Haas reclaimed his NCAA and American records in the 200-yard freestyle and picked up his second straight national title of the meet Friday evening at the 2018 NCAA Championships.
Haas held the NCAA and American records for the last two years in the 200-yard freestyle until Wednesday night when Indiana's Blake Pieroni eclipsed the 1:30 barrier en route to new records while leading off the Hoosiers' 800 freestyle relay. Haas reclaimed the NCAA and American records for himself in Friday's 200 freestyle final.
The silver medalist in the 200m freestyle at the 2017 World Championships, Haas took the lead as soon as he left the starting block and covered the opening 100 yards in a blistering 43.
