Golden Hat won’t be on the line for Red River Rematch between Texas and Oklahoma

Even though the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners will play for a second time in the same season for the first time since 1903 in Saturday’s Big 12 Championship Game in Arlington at AT&T Stadium, the Golden Hat won’t be on the line, according to Texas athletics director Chris Del Conte:

The winner of the Red River Showdown traditionally keeps the Golden Hat until the next game between the two rivals in the Cotton Bowl the following year. The golden replica of a 10-gallon cowboy hat was created in 1929 when the two schools signed a 10-year deal to play at the State Fair of Texas.
