FRISCO -- Last season was the first time this century that no Texas FBS team finished the season in the AP Top-25. It's a troubling number for a state that prides itself so much on football and a sharp departure from even 2015, when TCU, Houston and Baylor finished in the top-13 in the poll.
TCU head coach Gary Patterson minced no words over the state's absence from the end-of-year poll.
"We should be embarrassed we don't have a team in the top-25," Patterson said at Big 12 media day Monday. "There's a lot of good football players, even that come to our schools, that can play and play a high level, and we need to play better.
