KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Ever since he was an 18-year-old freshman at Kenyon College, Shaka Smart has kept a personal journal.
By now, the Texas basketball coach has quite a few volumes - and he still looks back at different times to review his thinking in past seasons, what was going on with his team and individual players and specific challenges.
If someone happened to review his journal from the 2016-17 season, Smart was asked Tuesday at Big 12 media day, would they be able to tell something was amiss in a season that ended with 22 losses and a last-place Big 12 finish?
