INDIANAPOLIS – Carson Foster captured gold in the 200-meter butterfly to highlight day one for Texas Swimming at the United States Phillips 66 National Championship at the Indiana University Natatorium on Tuesday night.
Foster's victory qualifies him for the United States roster at the 2023 World Aquatic Championships in Fukuoka, Japan. Incoming Longhorn Jillian Cox also qualified with a silver-medal performance in the women's 800-meter freestyle, while Dakota Luther added a third medal for Texas after capturing bronze in the women's 200-meter butterfly.
In the men's 200m fly, Foster moved ahead early and maintained the lead throughout the race, battling Trenton Julian for the first three-quarters of the race before being challenged by runner-up Thomas Heilman in the final 25 meters, winning with a time of 1:54.
