Following the Texas Longhorns’ Red River Rivalry win over the Oklahoma Sooners this past weekend, Texas players Anthony Hill and Barryn Sorrell took mid-field to plant a Texas flag through former OU quarterback Baker Mayfield’s jersey.
The Texas teammates’ idea was intended to mimic Mayfield’s flag-planting antics after Oklahoma beat Ohio State back in his college days, which ended up with a Heisman Trophy.
Of course, Mayfield — rarely one to shy away from a little smack-talk — caught wind of the Longhorns’ desecration of his No. 6 OU jersey. Now the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Mayfield was asked about the Texas teammates’ statement after the Bucs beat their division rival the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
