Former Longhorn Jermichael Finley opens up about concussions and depression

Jermichael Finley has taken some big hits in his day.

The former Texas and Green Bay Packers tight end suffered five concussions throughout his eight-year pro and college career. Those injuries, along with a spinal contusion, forced him to retire from the game in 2013.

Finley penned a reflection for The Players' Tribune, where he discussed his concussions and life after football. He said his injuries left him with some brutal after-effects, including serious depression and forgetfulness.

"I felt like my identity as a football player had been taken away from me," Finley said.
