AUSTIN, Texas – Texas sophomore linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. was named to the preseason watch list for the 2024 Dick Butkus Award, the Dick Butkus organization announced Tuesday. The Butkus Award is presented annually to the top linebacker in college football.
Longhorn Legend Derrick Johnson previously won the award in 2004 and was also a finalist in 2003, as was Sergio Kindle in 2009.
Hill Jr. looks to build upon a breakout freshman season in 2023 where he earned a spot on the FWAA's Freshman All-America team to go along with co-Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year honors.
