AUSTIN, Texas — Boosted by a school single-game record 175 punt return yards, Texas secured its 16th straight home opening win and 13th consecutive victory over Rice as the Longhorns raced past the Owls on Saturday night at Darrell K. Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium, 42-28.
Senior wide receiver Daje Johnson was at the forefront of the return yardage record, bringing back three punts for 119 yards (39.7 average), including an 85-yard, first quarter scamper.
Freshman quarterback Jerrod Heard certainly made an impact in his first career start on the Forty Acres, throwing for 120 yards and two TDs while also rushing for 96 yards.
