AUSTIN, Texas - University of Texas freshman sprinter Kynnedy Flannel and head coach Edrick Floréal were honored by the Big 12 Conference on Friday afternoon for their achievements during the indoor campaign. Flannel was named Big 12 Women's Freshman of the Year while Floréal was named Big 12 Women's Coach of the Year.
Flannel, a native of Alvin, Texas, is the first Longhorn woman since Rushelle Burton in 2017, and the sixth ever, to win the Freshman of the Year honors indoors. In addition to Burton, she joins Kendall Baisden (2014), Kaitlin Petrillose (2013), Destinee Hooker (2006) and Sanya Richards (2003) to have been distinguished with that honor.
