Five thoughts on Texas’ season: Longhorns have future bright despite heartbreaking season-ending loss

Texas' season ended in heartbreak fashion when Northern Iowa's Paul Jesperson sank a halfcourt buzzer-beater in the first round the NCAA Tournament.

Despite the tough loss, the Longhorns' future looks bright under head coach Shaka Smart.

1. A good start to the Smart era

The Longhorns began their season in China with a 77-71 loss to Washington. Despite the losing start, Texas rebounded with 6-1 record in December, including an 84-82 upset win over No. 3 North Carolina.

The Longhorns struggled in the beginning of conference play after losing senior center Cam Ridley to a fractured foot.
