Up 31-0 at the half after a dominant first half (the Longhorns scored touchdowns their first four possessions) against an overmatched Owl squad, the Longhorns were able to play reserves in the second half, get Casey Thompson real game experience, and cruise to a 48-13 win.
Unfortunately, starting center Zach Shackelford was bent over a pile, exacerbating a previous injury, and returned to the Longhorn sideline on crutches. That’s a big blow for a thin Texas OL. His injury status is currently unknown.
Sam Ehlinger came out firing early and was a sizzling 23 of 27 for 279 yards and 3 touchdowns before giving way to Casey Thompson in the 3rd quarter.
