Former Texas defensive backs coach Chris Vaughn possesses "high, high character" and is "straight as an arrow," one-time Mississippi coach Houston Nutt said on SiriusXM College Sports.
Nutt offered a spirited defense of Vaughn. Earlier this week, Vaughn was let go after two seasons at Texas amidst reports of his involvement in NCAA violations at Ole Miss from 2008-11 under Nutt.
"There's not one crooked bone in his body," Nutt said. "What is a travesty, you're going to take away this young man from being around 18-, 19- and 20-year olds?" Come on."
Nutt said he was "disappointed a little bit in Texas" and said he had spoken by phone with Vaughn, who is in the process of hiring a lawyer.
