Derek Lewis, who caught one of the most memorable passes in UT history, is named head football coach at Pinkston

Derek Lewis, who caught the memorable fourth-and-inches pass against Nebraska to clinch victory for Texas in the 1996 Big 12 Championship Game, is joining Dallas ISD.

DISD athletic director Troy Mathieu said Friday afternoon that Lewis has been named the head football coach and athletic coordinator at Pinkston. Lewis replaces Derwin Dukes, who retired at the end of the school year after an 0-10 season.

Most recently, Lewis was an assistant coach at Aldine Davis. He has spent a lot of his coaching career at the college level, working as a graduate assistant at Texas and as an assistant coach at North Texas, Minnesota, Florida and Air Force.
