RIO DE JANEIRO –
Ryan Crouser needed just one throw to advance through to the final in the men's shot put and Morolake Akinosun saw her teammates drop the baton during the semifinal round of the women's 4x100 meter relay and had to await a protest ruling for her fate.
Crouser posted a throw of 21.59 meters (70-10.00) on his first attempt to automatically qualify for tonight's final in the men's shot put. His throw ranked No. 1 in the qualifying round and was more than half a meter farther than the entire field.
