FUKUOKA, Japan – Texas Swimming's Jillian Cox placed sixth in the women's 800-meter freestyle at the World Aquatics Championships on Saturday at the Marine Messe Fukuoka. The incoming Longhorn and Austin native was racing in her first career world championship final.
Cox, representing the United States, posted a career-best 8:19.73 in the 800m free final to place sixth. Katie Ledecky of the United States won gold in 8:08.87 for her sixth consecutive world championship title. China's Li Bingjie won silver in 8:13.31 and Australia's Ariarne Titmus touched the wall in 8:13.59 to earn bronze.
In the women's 50-meter breaststroke, Lydia Jacoby tied for ninth in the semifinals with a swim of 30.
