Former Texas Longhorns defensive coordinator Manny Diaz has been hired to fill that job for Miami, new Hurricanes head coach Mark Richt announced Saturday.
Diaz is a Miami native, the son of a former mayor, and spent this season at Mississippi State.
“I’m very excited about Manny Diaz becoming our defensive coordinator,” Richt said. “I’ve known him for over 20 years, and I’ve watched him become one of the best defensive minds in the business.”
Diaz was fired as defensive coordinator at Texas under Mack Brown in 2013 after the Longhorns lost 40-21 at BYU.
Richt said Diaz will lead a 4-3 scheme.
