DALLAS – Texas sophomore running back Jonathon Brooks has been named a semifinalist for the 2023 Doak Walker Award, the PxC SMU Athletic Forum announced on Tuesday. Brooks, who suffered a season-ending ACL injury against Baylor, currently ranks 14th in the nation and eighth among Power 5 players in rushing yards (1,139) and is sixth nationally averaging 142.50 all-purpose yards per game.
Brooks looks to join a prestigious quartet of Longhorns who have won the Doak Walker Award, which began in 1990. Ricky Williams was a two-time winner, bringing home the trophy in 1997 and 1998, while Cedric Benson collected it in 2004, D'Onta Foreman won the honor in 2016 and Bijan Robinson earned the honor last season.
