KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Texas isn't done yet with the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship or its goal of reaching the NCAA tournament.
The seventh-seeded Longhorns (19-13) outlasted Iowa State 68-64 in the opening round Wednesday to reach the quarterfinals. Texas will face second-seeded Texas Tech (23-8) on Thursday.
Texas survived despite shooting just 40 percent and going 8 for 31 on 3-pointers. Junior Dylan Osetkowski led Texas with 20 points. Freshman Matt Coleman hit a 16-footer to put Texas up 68-64 with 44 seconds left followed by an Iowa State turnover.
Texas' NCAA hopes potentially rested on getting a win.
