As the Texas Longhorns lose on the gridiron, the culture war is winning the season.
It seems the Longhorns’ back-to-back losses to the TCU Horned Frogs and, most recently, the Oklahoma Sooners in the annual Red River Showdown have taken a backseat to the controversy surrounding the university’s song “The Eyes of Texas.” So much so that head coach Tom Herman is now encouraging players to stay for the song post-game, despite school officials telling players over the summer that they would have an option to not.
As the Austin American-Statesman notes in a recent report, “[Fans’ anger over players not singing ‘The Eyes’] spilled over Saturday when quarterback Sam Ehlinger was standing front and center, all by himself, with his Horns up after a four-overtime loss to Oklahoma.
