A new report in the Texas Tribune reveals that Texas Longhorns officials told players they had to stay for the singing of the “The Eyes of Protest,” despite the players’ protest of the song, or else risk upsetting big-money donors and Longhorn fans alike. An earlier report stated that donors allegedly threatened players with a lack of postgraduate employment opportunities.
“It was really eye opening,” junior linebacker DeMarvion Overshown told the Tribune. “These are some high-power people that come to see you play and they can keep you from getting a job in the state of Texas.
