Bevo XV to make debut as Texas mascot against Notre Dame on Sept. 4

Texas' new live mascot, Bevo XV, will make its public debut in the football season opener Sept. 4 against Notre Dame.

The school announced Monday that the latest Longhorn steer to serve as Bevo has been selected by the Silver Stars Alumni Association and is undergoing training.

This season marks the 100th anniversary of Bevo's first appearance, Nov. 30, 1916 against Texas A&M. The latest Bevo replaces Bevo XIV, who died in October and was present at the national title game against Southern California after the 2005 season and George W. Bush's second inauguration.

"Each Bevo has had his own unique personality and Bevo XV is no exception," said Ricky Brennes, executive director of the Silver Spurs.
