IRVING, Texas — University of Texas freshman forward Mohamed Bamba has been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league office announced Monday. This marks Bamba's second weekly league award, as he claimed co-Newcomer of the Week honors on Nov. 13.
Bamba recorded career highs in points (22), rebounds (15), blocks (8) and field goals made (9-of-16) in 34 minutes against No. 11/11 Kansas on Dec. 29. Eight of his 15 rebounds came on the offensive glass.
Bamba's eight blocks set a UT freshman single-game record and were one shy of the overall school single-game mark (9).
