Several key players broke out this season to lift the burnt orange to their first postseason in three years. Here are five Longhorns who exceeded expectations in 2017.

1 . DeShon Elliott, safety

Elliott was buried on the depth chart behind more experienced players during the Charlie Strong era. But new head coach Tom Herman set the Rockwall product free in 2017. Elliott delivered with a big season, picking off a Big 12-leading six passes and finishing as a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award for the nation's best safety.
