In a live interview on the Rivals Instagram page, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy guard Tamar Bates committed to the Texas Longhorns on Friday.
Bates chose Texas over a final group that included Alabama, Creighton, Iowa State, Kansas, Missouri, and Oregon. A 6’4, 175-pounder from Kansas City, Bates holds a total of 17 offers.
In June, Rivals analyst Eric Bossi wrote that Bates was a “must-get prospect” for Kansas in the 2021 class and compared him to current Jayhawks standout Marcus Garrett.
“Bates is a great fit for the Jayhawks,” Bossi wrote.
