4-star ATH Peyton Powell decommits from Texas

Following a secretive trip to Waco to visit with the Baylor Bears, Odessa Permian athlete Peyton Powell decommitted from the Texas Longhorns on Thursday, just six days before the early signing period:

The Longhorns made a late surge with the 6’2, 182-pounder following an official visit for the game against the Bears in the middle of October, in part because head coach Tom Herman and offensive coordinator Tim Beck offered Powell an opportunity play quarterback at Texas.

However, Powell still remained receptive to other schools, as evidenced by his Thursday decommitment, with Baylor emerging as the late favorite to land his services, perhaps in part because Powell’s friend, Melissa wide receiver Kennedy Lewis, is trending heavily towards the Bears.
