He arrived at Texas as one of the Longhorns' most hyped and physically gifted recruits in recent history, with a ceiling higher than the Austin skyline. Now, heading into his first collegiate season, the running back already has a chance to become a key fixture in the Longhorns' offense.

1. A record-breaking performance

About a month before he enrolled early with the Longhorns, Whittington gave one last dominating performance of his high school career -- and it may have been his best to date.

Whittington tallied 377 total yards (334 rushing), six total touchdowns (five rushing) and 11 tackles to lead his Cuero Gobblers to the Texas 4A Division 2 state championship over Pleasant Grove at AT&T Stadium in December.
