Those watching the Texas Longhorns' 38-3 annihilation at the hands of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in South Bend Saturday night likely didn't see much from the Horns that resembled "progress" for the retooling program.
However, that's not how the Longhorns are approaching it.
"It was 38-3, but I still say we're a better football team than that," Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong said following the team's third-straight blowout loss dating to last season.
"Progress is being made, but I know we haven't shown it in the last two games," assistant offensive head coach/quarterbacks coach Shawn Watson added.
Even starting QB Tyrone Swoopes believes that he, the offense and the team as a whole is moving forward.
"We have made progress," said junior quarterback Tyrone Swoopes, who looked lost and out of sorts moreso than at the end of last season.
Whether Texas is just trying to sell the public a bill of goods or they actually believe what they're saying, the real test of all of this will be whether or not they put together a bounce-back performance at home against Rice next Saturday.
