The Texas Longhorns received a commitment from four-star tight end Malcolm Epps (Houston, TX) on Tuesday, and that has given Texas more than just a star tight end.
Following his commitment and Monday's pledge from four-star defensive tackle Keondre Coburn (Houston, TX), the Longhorns now have the No. 2 recruiting class in the country, according to Scout.com.
They only trail Ohio State in the 2018 recruiting cycle with Miami, Penn State and Oregon rounding out the top five.
Those two commitments also means that Texas has locked up nine of the top 30 players in the state, which new head coach Tom Herman said was a major priority when he took over.
"I want the high school coaches of the great state of Texas to know that this is their football program," said Herman. "I have recruited this state for 20-some odd years. I have grown up with the high school football coaches in this great state. It is important to me that the great players in the great state of Texas understand that we are going to do everything we can to keep them home."
Texas now has 17 total commitments in the 2018 class, 13 of whom are four-star prospects.
The 6-foot-1, 329-pound Coburn is ranked as the No. 6 defensive tackle and No. 75 overall prospect in the country, according to Scout's rankings.
The 6-foot-6, 218-pound Epps is ranked as the No. 9 tight end and No. 201 overall prospect in the country.
