A few weeks after losing former highly-touted recruit and DT Jordan Elliott, the Texas Longhorns are losing another talented defensive player. Former top 100 recruit and LB Erick Fowler has been granted a released by Texas.
Erick Fowler, once a Manor standout, is officially leaving Texas. The five-star LB has been granted a release.

Fowler was a five-star according to Rivals.com, but he was a four-star in the 247Sports composite rankings. The Texas product was the No. 74 overall recruit in the class of 2016 and the No. 12 player from Texas. He was a huge get at the time for former head coach Charlie Strong. He was a long-time verbal commit to LSU before flipping to Texas on National Signing Day.
However, Fowler's entrance into the program was delayed by summer school. As a result, he didn't join the team until summer practices had already started. He didn't make much of an impact in his freshman season.
Fowler was expected to be a reserve linebacker this year for Texas. Davis reports it's clear head coach Tom Herman is getting rid of players "not in alignment."
It's unclear where Fowler will transfer. He will need to sit out a year per NCAA rules.
