The Texas Longhorns just put the finishing touches on a highly-ranked recruiting class in 2016, thanks in large part to a great Signing Day. The Longhorns, head coach Charlie Strong and his staff have already turned their attention to the 2017 class.
While the Longhorns might not end up with every player listed here, they'll targeting several high-profile recruits this year with the hope of landing them. A big tip of the hat to 247Sports, as their rankings were used to detail the recruits' overall and positional rankings. The players are listed in descending order of their overall rank. With that in mind, here are the top seven prospects Texas is targeting in the 2017 recruiting class.
7. OT Walker Little
A four-star recruit like the bulk of the players on this list, Little is the No. 163 overall prospect. He's the No. 25 OT in the nation and the No. 22 player from Texas. Ole Miss and Texas appear to be the two front-runners.
6. WR Damion Miller
Miller committed back in June, but still counts as a top target since we're nearly a year away from Signing Day. He's the No. 131 overall player, and could play as a safety in addtion to his listed positon of WR. He's the No. 18 WR and the No. 18 player from the state of Texas.
5. S Derrick Tucker
The four-star recruit is the No. 78 overall player. He's the No. 5 safety in the 2017 class and it's the Longhorns that are currently the front-runners to land him. While LSU and TCU are also in the mix, Tucker took an official visit to Texas in September. For more on Texas' recruiting plans, download the Chat Sports Android and iPhone app.
4. DE Lagaryonn Carson
Carson has already committed to Texas in October, but is still taking unofficial visits to schools like Texas A&M. He's the No. 70 overall player and the No. 2 strong-side DE.
3. RB J.K. Dobbins
Dobbins is an RB, but has a chance to also contribute on returns. He's the No. 8 player from Texas and the No. 49 overall player in the 2017 class. Texas is the current front-runner, but the battle is far from over.
2. DT Marvin Wilson
Wilson is the No. 5 player in the nation, meaning Texas has plenty of competition for him. He's the top-ranked DT and the best player from the state of Texas, and the Longhorns want to keep him in-state. Also in the mix for Wilson is LSU, Baylor and Texas A&M. He holds offers from pretty much every major program.
1. LB Dylan Moses
Texas, just like every program in the nation, would love to add the top player in the 2017 class. Moses hails from Florida, although he was at University High on the campus of LSU before moving. That gives the Tigers the advantage, but Texas will do what it can to land Moses.
