We caught up with former Texas and NFL wide receiver Quan Cosby to recap the Longhorns’ victory over Oklahoma State last weekend. Cosby covers the Texas football team for IMG Radio Network. You can follow him on Twitter at @QCosby17.
Texas grabbed their sixth win of the season to become bowl-eligible with a 28-7 victory over Oklahoma State on Saturday behind the arm of quarterback Tyrone Swoopes. He passed for 305 yards and two touchdowns, and Cosby thinks that was the biggest factor in the Longhorns' fast start.
"Tyrone throwing the ball stood out more than anything," he said. "Run game travels and Texas still ran the ball efficiently, but the balls he threw - especially in that terrible weather - were very, very impressive."
Senior wideout John Harris was Swoopes' favorite target as he has been all season, catching nine passes for 117 yards and a touchdown. As good as Texas was in the passing game, their defense was even better.
"In the first three quarters, Oklahoma State had 69 total yards of offense. It was unreal how well the defense played. Texas had such a big lead that they smartly ran the football mostly in the second half to shorten the game and got out of there as quickly as possible."
Becoming bowl-eligible was a big step for the Longhorns after starting the season 2-4, and Cosby said it shows that the program is moving in the right direction.
"It's exactly what everyone was looking for - improvement," Cosby explained. "They started out slow, but rolling off three wins in a row regardless of the opponent is impressive. It is a pride thing when players put on that jersey, playing to that Texas standard."
The Longhorns have the weekend off to prepare for their matchup with No. 4 TCU on Thanksgiving night. Kickoff for that game is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 1.
