We caught up with former Texas and NFL wide receiver Quan Cosby to talk about Longhorns’ matchup with Oklahoma State on Saturday. Cosby covers the Texas football team for IMG Radio Network. You can follow him on Twitter at @QCosby17.
Texas pulled an upset over a ranked West Virginia team last week, bringing their overall record back to .500.
Quan Cosby Recaps Texas’ Upset Win Over West Virginia
Now, the Longhorns will look to grab a win that will make them bowl eligible on the road against Oklahoma State. It's going to be uncharacteristically cold in Stillwater this weekend, which Cosby thinks will play a big factor in the game.
"It's going to be around 20 degrees with a chance of snow, and the way you eliminate that is to run the ball," he explained. "That got Texas the last two wins, running the football. Texas has to win in the trenches. If the offensive line continues to open up holes, they'll be able to control the game."
Oklahoma State was ranked in the top 15 in the country just a month ago, but are currently on a three-game losing streak. Their usually high-powered offense has been grounded, averaging only 11 points a game during that losing streak.
"Their offense hasn't reached their own standard for success. Doubt starts to creep into players' minds when they lose and aren't successful, and Texas needs to add doubt to their minds. You do that by being physical with their receivers and dominating them up front."
So will the Longhorns be able to extend their winning streak?
"I have Texas by 13," Cosby said. "They've had Oklahoma State's number even when the Cowboys were doing well, and I think that's in their heads. The run game and run-stopping defense will be the key with the weather, and those areas are Texas' strengths."
Texas and Oklahoma State kick-off Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on FOX.
