Tennessee pledge Cecil Cherry is slated to visit the Texas Longhorns this weekend as Charlie Strong and his staff look to change the Lakeland (Fla.) Victory Christian Academy linebacker's mind after he verbally committed to Butch Jones and the Vols.
Per Corey Bender of Scout.com, "Cherry, 6-foot, 230-pounds, is physical at the point of attack and a linebacker who's more than willing to get his nose dirty in the ground game. Through nine games for the Storm, the productive and hard-hitting linebacker has registered 95 tackles (58 solo), three interceptions, three forced fumbles and a pair of sacks, averaging out to nearly 12 tackles per contest."
Cherry is one of several Florida recruits the Longhorns have reached out to in the recent weeks, as Charlie Strong attempts to build his presence in the Sunshine State.
"I'm supposed to be taking an official visit to Texas (this) weekend," Cherry said via Bender's article on Monday. "They offered me when Strong moved over there. The defensive line coach (Chris Rumph) offered me when he was at Alabama, too."
"Chris Nelson, my homeboy that I played little league with, he's there and we're like brothers," Cherry added. "You never know, it's a roller-coaster this time in college football. You have to enjoy your time because once you're locked in, you're locked in and you'll never get it again."
