In this Longhorns football news and rumors update, defensive tackle Desmond Jackson has taken umbrage to the criticism that the Texas Longhorns defense has received after a shaky 2013 campaign.
With a new year ahead and a chance to change everyone's minds, Jackson is ready to put games like last year's BYU tilt (where the Longhorns gave up an astounding 550 rushing yards in a 40-21 loss) behind him.
“I’m tired of everybody saying that Texas’ defense is soft,” Jackson said Wednesday, via Chuck Carlton of the Dallas News.
“That’s the No. 1 thing I’ve been hearing. We aren’t really that worried about it, but to call it ‘soft’ after all of the hard work we’ve put in, I just feel like we have more to prove this year than we did in previous years.”
After August 30th's opener with North Texas, the Longhorns will get a chance to avenge last year's BYU debacle on September 6th in Austin. That could be the perfect time for Jackson and defensive cohorts to silence their biggest critics.
