Is Mack Brown coming back to coach in Texas? Well, according to reports, there is a chance but it won't be in burnt orange. Within the past day, multiple sources have reported that SMU has offered Brown a deal somewhere in the 8 year $32 million range.

If SMU is unable to land Mack Brown as their next head coach it won't be for a lack of effort. It seems as though the basketball programs quick ascent under championship coach Larry Brown seems to have convinced the football to go for gold as well. The contract that SMU is discussing with Brown would make him the highest paid coach in the AAC, replacing last year's leader Charlie Strong, who as we all know is now coaching Brown's former team.
All of the speculation of Mack Brown to SMU is completely dependent on whether or not the longtime coach wants to return to the sidelines. Earlier this month, Brown made it know that he missed coaching but "he's not interesting in coaching anywhere right now." Mack Brown is currently serving as a college football analyst on ESPN and it seems that is where he will stay for the time being. Prior to his comments about not being interested in coaching at the moment, Brown did say that he would decide the fate of his coaching career come December.
While Brown seems comfortable in his new position, only coaches of his caliber know what it is like to give up their career on the sidelines. Should he return to the helm at SMU, Brown would be inheriting a mess of a football team that is currently 0-6 and averaging only 6.5 points per game.
Only time will tell the fate of Brown's potential return to the Lone Star State, but come December, Texas and the country will be waiting diligently to see what the coaching legend will decide to do.
