Texas football is heading into year two of the Charlie Strong era, which means increased expectations and a fan base hungry for a return to the top of the college football mountain. However, some of the players they were counting on haven't performed well. Here are three guys that have disappointed the coaching staff during fall camp:
QB Jerrod Heard
Heard was supposed to challenge Tyrone Swoopes for the starting QB job, and some were even hoping/expecting him to take the job. However, Swoopes has reportedly "run away" with the job because of Heard's lack of production in practice. He struggled during his redshirt year last season at picking up the playbook, and that issue hasn't gone away.
DE Bryce Cottrell
Cottrell was one of the stars of Texas' spring game, but now it's looking like he could just be a spring star. He suffered another leg injury that has kept him out of practice, and while it doesn't put his status for the opening week in jeopardy (we think), it hasn't allowed him to define his role. He'll still get some playing time, but it's going to take longer for him to have the impact the coaching staff thought he would have.
OL Terrell Cuney
Terrell Cuney put his status with the team in jeopardy after being arrested for shoplifting. While he hasn't been kicked off the team, his mistake has opened the door for a younger talent. True freshman Patrick Vahe has already made a positive impression on the coaching staff in camp, and with him being a better pro prospect, he could very well steal Cuney's job.
