UT-Arlington braved the stalemate and defeated No. 6 Texas A&M 5-1 in 18 innings Tuesday night at Olsen Field in College Station.
It was the longest game in school history for A&M and lasted five hours and 41 minutes, ending early Wednesday morning.
No runs were scored in the first 17 innings, as the Mavericks and Aggies left a combined 33 runners on base.
In the top of the 18th, UTA centerfielder Noah Vaughan hit a routine liner into right field, but the ball was misplayed by A&M's Baine Schoenvogel and rolled all the way to the fence, allowing third baseman RJ Williams to score from first base to give the Mavericks the first run of the game.
