‘That was nuts’: No. 3 Texas A&M overcomes 3 large deficits to defeat South Carolina 15-14

COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M second baseman Ryne Birk summed up 36 combined hits and 29 combined runs in one game Saturday in three apt words: “That was nuts.”

Nuts, indeed, as the No. 3 Aggies staged comeback after comeback in a 15-14 victory over South Carolina on Saturday evening at Olsen Field. The game lasted more than four hours, and was capped by a game-winning 2-RBI double by A&M leadoff hitter Blake Allemand in the bottom of the ninth.

The Aggies (42-8, 17-8 SEC) trailed 14-12 entering the ninth inning. Allemand said he knew Gamecocks reliever Taylor Widener was “struggling to throw strikes,” especially after Hunter Melton led off the inning with his second solo home run of the day.
