COLLEGE STATION – Coastal Carolina coach Gary Gilmore walked away from Olsen Field on Sunday impressed with Texas A&M starter Andrew Vinson.
“That young man on the mound, he was a handful,” Gilmore said.
So was the A&M offense, as the Aggies stayed alive in the NCAA tournament with an 8-1 victory over CCU in an NCAA tournament elimination game. Vinson (5-2) allowed five hits over 7 2/3 innings in shutting down CCU, which scored its lone run in the ninth.
“He’s an extreme competitor and game manager,” A&M coach Rob Childress said of Vinson.
A&M’s Nick Banks, Logan Nottebrok and Logan Taylor led the way offensively with 2 RBIs each, including home runs from Banks and Nottebrok.
