Texas A&M turns to Kyler Murray at quarterback

COLLEGE STATION – Freshman Kyler Murray earns his shot as Texas A&M’s starting quarterback at 11 a.m. Saturday against South Carolina, less than half a year removed from Allen High School, according to an insider with knowledge of the situation.

Sophomore Kyle Allen had started the season’s first seven games, but has struggled big-time in the past two, double-digit A&M losses at home to Alabama and at Mississippi. Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin announced the decision to start Murray on Friday afternoon.

Murray has played in five of the Aggies’ seven games, but not with any extended action to really try and get in a rhythm.
