Texas A&M safety Justin Evans named Jim Thorpe Player of the Week

Texas A&M’s Justin Evans isn’t just one of the SEC’s top safeties. After last week’s win against UCLA, he’s earning nationwide recognition.

Evans was named the Jim Thorpe Player of the Week for his effort against the Bruins, the university announced. Evans picked off UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen twice during the fourth quarter, helping to preserve the Aggies’ 31-24 victory.

The senior also broke up UCLA’s last-ditch pass on fourth down in overtime and made eight tackles.

Evans is the first winner this year of the weekly honor. The Jim Thorpe Award is presented at the end of each season to the nation’s best defensive back.
