Texas A&M has brought back one of its most popular coaches while it searches for its next athletic director.
R.C. Slocum will be the Aggies' interim athletic director, the school announced Friday. He fills the temporary void left by Scott Woodward, who left his post this week to take the same job at LSU.
Slocum was 123-47-2 in 24 years at A&M. He led the Aggies to the Big 12 title in 1998, which still stands as the Aggies' last football conference title.
"My role is to keep the momentum going forward until a permanent AD is hired, as well as to assure Aggies, coaches and athletes that nothing has changed," Slocum said in a statement released by the university.
