The quarterback competition last year was more than just naming a starter in Jimbo Fisher’s first year as the head coach of Texas A&M football. Given the landscape of college football, with the NCAA increasingly loosening its grip on transfers sitting out and players looking to transfer more in general these days, it was very much possible the loser of said competition would transfer.
That’s exactly what Nick Starkel will do.
Fisher pegged Mond as the starter out of fall camp. Even when the true sophomore slipped up in losses to Mississippi State and Auburn, when a lesser coach (read: Kevin Sumlin) may have gone with his backup in that situation, Fisher was 1000 percent behind Mond.
