When Texas A&M Athletic Director Scott Woodward bolted for LSU basically the same day Joe Alleva “stepped down,” (in name only…the dude was canned but saved face) it certainly fell like the sky was falling in Aggieland. However, once the dust settled we had to remind ourselves: Texas A&M football has an elite coach, Texas A&M basketball has an elite coach, and Texas A&M baseball has an elite coach. Not to mention the continued success of various women’s programs that predated Woodward.
Woodward put the Aggies in a better position than he inherited. One could make the argument he would never accomplish as much as he had in the 18 months it took to hire Jimbo Fisher away from Florida State and Buzz Williams away from Virginia Tech.
