When Jimbo Fisher took over as head coach of Texas A&M football, there were few carry-overs from the Kevin Sumlin regime. One such carry-over was offensive line coach Jim Turner, whose resumé makes it almost impossible for a coach to dismiss even if he’s not “his guy.”
Turner spent a few years as the offensive line coach under Mike Sherman, recruiting and coaching up the likes of Luke Joeckel, Jake Matthews, Cedric Ogbuehi, and Germain Ifedi, each of whom were drafted in the first round in consecutive drafts from 2013-2017, respectively.
Turner did not stick around for Sumlin’s first couple years as he took an offer to coach the Miami Dolphins offensive line, but came back in 2016 and immediately began to turn around a unit that had struggled under Sumlin.
