As we near the (supposed) resumption of fall collegiate sports, the safety of student athletes has been at the forefront. Players across the Pac 12 are requesting significant enhancements to player safety practices (among other demands), and claim they will boycott the season if these demands are not met. Many other players have individually opted out of the 2020 season, most notably, star Purdue WR Rhondale Moore.
As concerns grow among student athletes, it’s important that universities as well as the conferences do what is necessary to protect them. That may eventually mean cancelling seasons, but the SEC is doing all it can to still play sports safely this fall, and with that in mind, they have rolled out initial COVID-19 management requirements for the fall athletics season, as recommended by the SEC’s Return to Activity and Medical Guidance Task Force.
