When it comes to progress in the classroom, Rice is the best in Texas.
The private school in Houston had the highest Academic Progress Rate of the state's football programs, according to information released by the NCAA on Wednesday. Rice, which had an APR of 984 for 2015-16, is one of three Conference USA schools that outpaced the rest of Texas' Football Bowl Subdivision Programs.
Texas-El Paso (980) and North Texas (979) were also among the leaders. UNT's APR score helped the Mean Green reach the Heart of Dallas Bowl in 2016 despite being one win shy of bowl eligibility.
