It was bound to happen eventually.
When Kellen Mond and Nick Starkel started their battle for Texas A&M's starting quarterback job in 2017, the outcomes were clear. One of them was destined to be a program cornerstone while the other weighed two primary outcomes -- wait for an opportunity or look for playing time elsewhere.
On Tuesday, Starkel opted for the later.
In a statement released on his Twitter account, Starkel said he will transfer to another program. If he receives his degree in the summer as he anticipates, he can play at a Football Bowl Subdivision school this fall and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
